Heads up, everyone in India who owns a ride!
Word is out: the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is bumping up the fees for vehicle fitness certificates, starting in November 2025. Some fees are jumping as much as 10 times what they used to be. That big increase everyone’s been talking about – going from ₹2,500 to a whopping ₹25,000 – is really happening, especially if you’ve got an older commercial vehicle.
So, if you’re driving a car, bike, truck, or bus that’s been around for more than 15 years, your next fitness check is gonna cost you quite a bit more. Keep reading to get the lowdown on the new prices, who’s gonna feel it the most, and what you can do about it now.
Big news for every vehicle owner in India!
Basically, the government wants to:
- Get older, unsafe, and polluting vehicles off the roads.
- Make owners either get their vehicles in good shape or scrap them.
- Get some cash to improve vehicle testing places all over the country.
Before, the tough rules only hit vehicles over 20 years old. Now, the clock starts ticking at 15 years.

- Commercial vehicles (taxis, trucks, buses) that are more than 15 years old → every 2 years.
- Private cars and bikes over 15 years old → when you renew your registration after 15 years.
- Only Automated Testing Stations (ATS) can do this – no more fitness certificates done by hand.
What to Do Right Now?
- See when your vehicle was registered on Parivahan.gov.in
- If your ride is 12–14 years old → start saving up now
- Think about scrapping it and buying a new one → the Government is giving a 4–6% bonus under the Vehicle Scrappage Policy 2021

Does This Rule Count in Every State?
You bet! This is a rule from the Central Government, thanks to the Motor Vehicles Act. Every state’s gotta follow it starting November 2025.
The Bottom Line
That jump from ₹2,500 to ₹25,000 is for real, and it’s already happening. It’s gonna sting if you own an older vehicle, but the government says it’s gonna make the roads in India safer and cleaner.
Pass this along to anyone you know who owns a vehicle – lots of people still haven’t heard about this big fee change!
